Cannabis Is Efficacious for the Treatment of Insomnia
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was recently conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of 2 weeks of nightly sublingual cannabis in treating chronic insomnia.
This study involved 24 randomized participants with a mean age of 53 years. Compared to placebo, cannabis improved sleep onset and wake time after sleep onset by about 10 minutes, increased total sleep time by just over an hour, and increased feeling of being rested on waking. The results of this small randomized clinical trial suggests that two weeks of nightly sublingual cannabis improves insomnia symptoms and sleep quality in individuals with chronic insomnia symptoms.
